Around 300 yachts will sail into the Gulf of Saint Tropez to parade across the sea, as the week of celebrations turns the town of Saint Tropez into a giant sailing village. An assortment of artisans and business owners will be represented to promote local know-how. And the bars and restaurants will have some great surprises in store for you, including shows by dancers and other performers together with themed evenings. Check out what’s on during the week so you can plan your stay.

The Voiles de Saint Tropez: a breathtaking sight

The 25th Voiles de Saint Tropez promises to be a spectacular affair. With the last weekend of September segueing into the beginning of October in this year’s calendar, the regattas are organised over 10 days instead of the usual two weeks. The Voiles will be a real challenge with the Maxi yachts vying for position from the opening race. The Portalet area has been repurposed so that spectators watching from the shore will have a better view of the start line. From there, you can marvel at the magic of the regattas.

The Competitions

According to Benoît de Froidmont, president of the International Maxi Association, the new format packed into 10 days marks a “return to the original spirit of the Voiles de Saint Tropez”.

Boat categories

The spotlight will be firmly on the maxis: these monohulls over 18.28 metres long will be helmed by marquee international crews and will do battle in a feast for the eyes. You’ll also be able to watch the fleet of traditional sailboats during the event, as well as the modern and classic yachts that come to duke it out over the Mediterranean.

The Races

This year, the Société Nautique de Saint Tropez will invite visitors to admire almost 50 maxis when the regatta opens on Sunday, October 1. On the Monday, you can watch these giants of the sea together with the moderns. They will be at sea from Tuesday to Friday with the entire fleet, joining the classic yachts among others. On Sunday, October 1, Saint Tropez will also welcome the traditional sailboats competing for the Yacht Club de France Autumn Cup. The Challenge Day on Thursday, October 5 will feature classic and modern yachts, and will be interspersed with activities on land and at sea.

The culture and atmosphere

The hallmark of the Voiles de Saint Tropez is the positive atmosphere that characterises the event and the sense of fair play that dates back to its earliest days. Professionals, enthusiasts, amateurs, interested onlookers… everyone is welcome. Classic boats – and sometimes very old models – rub shoulders with ultra-modern yachts that are the very latest in high-tech.

Entertainment and festivities

Although the regattas are the focal point, the Voiles de Saint Tropez also catches the eye thanks to the smorgasbord of activities organised during the event, with a string of concerts, boules competitions, a “sardinade” evening, the sailors’ parade and invitation-only parties.

The Voiles de Saint Tropez: for the love of the sea

The Voiles de Saint Tropez is still the most iconic of all the boating events held in Saint Tropez.
