The Port-Cros National Park, created in 1963, is Europe's oldest marine park with a land mass of 1,700 ha and 2,900 ha of marine area.
As part of the Iles d'Or coastal archipelago, the national park lies just opposite Le Bailli de Suffren under an hour off the coast, and it is perfectly possible to see it from the hotel in good weather. The Port-Cros National Park boasts a substantial historical heritage consisting of Roman remains, around thirty shipwrecks and twenty or so military forts.
The Port-Cros National Park is well-known for its protected areas – the islets of Bagaud and Gabinière, which are wilderness areas – and so much more!
Following an agreement with Italy and the Principality of Monaco, France plays an important role in looking after the park. It runs and manages not just the park itself but also the initiatives for safeguarding and protecting marine mammals: The International Sanctuary for Marine Mammals – Pelagos.
You will be amazed by the variety of bird and fish species, which number in their hundreds, as well as nearly 500 species of algae.
In 2020 Le Bailli de Suffren gives you the opportunity to explore the deep blue sea and the riches of the seabed of the Port-Cros National Park. With the help of our partners, the « Aventure Bleue », diving club, the sea floor will now be open to one and all. We will be offering diving trips for experienced practitioners together with first dives in and around Le Bailli de Suffren**** alongside customised packages for hotel guests.
