Visit picture-postcard villages along the Mediterranean coast

The village of Rayol-Canadel-sur-Mer, which looks out over the Mediterranean, stretches into the heart of a wooded area that is home to over 400 species of local plants. Just above the sandy beaches that have earned this spot its reputation, the lavish, panoramic paths are dotted with cork oaks, mimosa and heather. Cavalaire-sur-Mer is the setting for a handsome marina and lively town centre, where you can explore a huge range of shops, cafes and restaurants. In fact, Cavalaire-sur-Mer personifies the picturesque charm that is unique to the prettiest villages along the Côte d’Azur. The village of Le Lavandou is well-known to divers, who love the beautiful seabed, and it well deserves its nickname of “City of Dolphins”. Take a boat trip out to sea or explore the signposted trails as far as the old village of Bormes-les-Mimosas. Here the traditional houses, narrow streets lined with flowers and the ruins of the château are a feast for the eyes.

Excursions to local historical sites

Bormes-les-Mimosas is also famed for its rich historical heritage. The village is home to the chapels and church of Saint-Trophyme as well as the château of the Lords of Fos, mediaeval monuments that are well worth the visit if you’re passing through. And don’t miss the Museum of Arts and History and the Maison des Artistes. Back in Rayol-Canadel-sur-Mer, military history enthusiasts can take a tour of the Provence Landing Monument, the African Commandos Monument or the Military Necropolis. You can also go and appreciate the mighty buildings of Verne Monastery in Collobrières and the Citadel of Saint Tropez with its splendid keep, or enjoy a trip to the island of Porquerolles. To get there, take a shuttle from Giens peninsula or the Port du Lavandou to make the crossing.
